Home again (for now)

SO FAR so good… Yesterday I met the bride in Oxford, Maine. She was headed north, I was headed south. We had a wonderful time last evening at our niece Courtney’s wedding, to Matt. His wedding to her, too, so… Double header.

This was Friday, sunset over Flanders Bay, town of Sullivan, Downeast Maine.

The ’49 truck is there, where it needs to be through next Saturday, when D2 gets married at Aunt Roberta’s. I’m back at the humble manse through Wednesday, Thursday… whenever the rehearsal is. At some point I’ll get the word on a need-to-know basis, will saddle up and ride north again.

Sunrise at Aunt Roberta’s yesterday. I was loading up the iron piggy for the ride down to Oxford. Shot this from the house with a long lens.

Wider view…

Wider yet…

Forgot to tell you how I got the iron piggy off the back of the ’49 truck. No way you’re going to roll a 950-pound motorcycle down a plank and not risk grievous injury, property damage, unwanted YouTube publicity, frontrunner status for the uncoveted Darwin Award, all that.

So down by Route 1 in Sullivan I found a house with an abrupt grade change out front. That way the bike comes off the truck level.

Even so, it’s good to have another set of hands on the porky old hog when you roll her off the truck bed.

And I did, a guy named Eddie, Eddie I Forget His Last Name, to be exact. He’s from upstate New York, was in town visiting family.

It was rainy and chilly this morning in Oxford, Maine. But with a mere 200 miles behind us, here we are in Little Rhody, where things are sultry, and decidedly Indian-Summery.

Hey Tony….Should have written this note a couple of months ago, when you started one of your posts with Ryan Adam’s “Dear Chicago…”! I’ve loved your blogs from all the miles traveled this summer and just wanted to say hi! Your picture quality is so good that I have to ask, “What are you shooting with mister?”. Even the pics from my big Nikon need some Photoshop pizazz (particularly on cloudy days despite proper white balance setting.) Let me know….and keep posting, riding and staying safe!
    Babs!

Fabo! I thought of you Sunday as I passed by your corner on my way in from Maine.

I took those pics with a Canon T3i and a Sony RX100 III. Andy Dickerman recommended the Sony in the last conversation I had with that late friend of ours. He carried one in Mexico and Central America in his travels down there.

He asked me to go to Southeast Asia with him when my South America plans fell through that winter, and… you know the rest of that story. I’ll always wonder whether I could have helped Andy in some way if I had been there.

I wasn’t sure I wanted the Sony but I’m glad I bought it. I think of Andy every time I use it 🙂

    What a great visit!!!!

It was fun. Thanks again for your hospitality, Roberta.

On a side note, I wasn’t aware that Sullivan, though a small town, has such a great variety of hookers.

Great shots but…. Ol’ 49er looking kinda lonely out there. Post up a photo next week with all the people standing around her at the reception. And of the bride and groom too… AND B&G with a proud Mom & Pop.

Awesome pictures of your truck Tony!

Eddy from Upstate New York? Uh, Tony, Upstate NY is a big place. 🙂

    • Tony says:

Very big! I keep riding across it and haven’t seen the half of it. He was from around the Finger Lakes, or… I guess a true New Yorker would probably call it the Give You The Finger Lakes Region. Nine or ten hour drive and he’s up in Sullivan every six to eight weeks to look in on his elderly Pop.
